What We Do, Why We Do It, and How We Figure Things Out
At Snore Mentor, our goal is to be a comprehensive resource for factual, evidence-based snoring solutions. Our reviews aren’t just based on prices or appearances. We test every product that we talk about, and we look at the latest trends, designs, statistics and medical research when evaluating the efficiency of a particular brand or model.
The result is a full-scale database of everything from modular mouthpieces to inflatable pillows. Snore Mentor covers it all. If it’s advertised as a sleep aid, we want to try it out. Additionally, we pride ourselves on our testing methods. Everything is evaluated with a thorough scientific process, and we analyze our own results to double-check our conclusions.
Our extensive testing parameters have been put in place to ensure that we’re giving you an accurate review of how the product works and whether it’s worth the money. We have experience, too. Our team is comprised of snoring experts who are dedicated to finding solutions for this tricky problem. Many of us are former snorers ourselves. We have a personal stake in getting it right.
There’s a lot more to snoring than just noise. For this reason, product testing should be more than just slapping on some nose plugs and deciding if they’re comfortable. You deserve fact-based research data. You deserve to browse lists of valuable, verified sleep aids.
If you’re suffering from nighttime breathing difficulties, Snore Mentor can help.
Dennis James – Founder of Snore Mentor
I used to annoy my wife with my awesome snoring skills. Finally, I stopped snoring (and saved my married life).
I’ve been snoring my entire life. People always think that I’m joking when I say this, but I mean it literally. My parents have pictures of a small, pajama-clad boy snoring on the couch during an afternoon nap.
Struggling With My Snoring
It didn’t get any better when I was older. In fact, I’d say that it got worse.
While there’s a certain charm in a little kid snoring like a freight train, there’s nothing cute about a grown man doing it. I can’t even tell you how many friends, roommates and bed partners complained about my nocturnal noises.
It got to the point where my snoring was affecting my quality of life.
I was one of those people who could actually wake myself up after a loud choke or snort, so I disrupted my own sleep over and over again. I staggered through my days like a zombie. I was always tired, and I dreaded going to bed because I knew the cycle would start all over again.
Looking for Solutions
I’d tried anti-snoring products, of course. But what I didn’t realize at the time was that I was trying the wrong ones. I’d pick something random off the shelf of the drug store and expect it to magically fix my snores, or I’d choose something like ear plugs that only covered up the problem instead of treating it.
Let me tell you a secret: Finding the right anti-snoring product takes time and research.
You have to be willing to do your homework about your options. You have to look into the root causes of snoring and understand what’s really going on with your body.
You have to experiment a little, too. Everyone is different, and what works for one person might not work for another. That’s what I learned after a lot of failed gadgets and gizmos.
It took me awhile until I realized that stopping my snores was a marathon and not a sprint.
So, what was my catalyst to keep trying different products despite all of the frustration?
I fell in love.
Living Through Trial and Error
My wife is everything that I could want in a partner, and it absolutely killed me when my snores kept her awake at night. She was a trooper who never complained, but I could see her tired eyes in the morning.
My snores were no longer a personal issue. They were negatively affecting the people I loved, too.
This is when I got serious about finding anti-snoring devices that worked for me. The good news is that I had plenty of things to try:
– Jaw adjusters
– Tongue holders
– Nasal strips and dilators
– Chin guards
– Breathing machines
With hundreds of snoring devices on the market, I had my pick of what to buy. I just had to figure out how to narrow down my options.
Choosing the Right Product
Let me disclaim right away that my content does not constitute a one-on-one medical consultation. However, all of our content is medically reviewed by certified doctors for accuracy. You should see a certified medical professional for diagnosis.
I’m just a person who has tried dozens and dozens of anti-snoring devices, so I have a bit more knowledge and experience than the average Joe.
There are certain qualities that all good anti-snoring products possess. They might be different in terms of size, function, maintenance and price, but the fundamentals of a good product are the same.
Here are some of the most important things to consider in an anti-snoring device:
How does it work?
How does it prevent noises from coming out of your mouth?
If it’s a mouthpiece, it might hold your jaw in a certain position as you sleep, allowing your throat to remain open and unobstructed by vibrations.
If it’s a nasal dilator, it might prevent you from unconsciously switching to mouth breathing and increasing the likelihood of snores. You’ll definitely want to read up on a product’s methodology before you buy it.
How is it fitted?
How can you be sure that it fits comfortably into your mouth or across your chin?
Can you order multiple sizes?
Can you mold it with heat-sensitive technology?
Some products will even let you create a customized impression of your teeth so that it fits you right down to the chip on your front canine. Pay attention to these things as you browse different brands and products; if you buy something uncomfortable, you won’t want to use it even if it’s effective.
Can it be adjusted?
This might sound similar to fitting the device, but it’s actually something different. Fitting a mouthpiece means changing its size and shape, but adjusting it means re-calibrating what’s already there.
For example, there are jaw advancement products that will let you adjust how much your jaw is pushed forward during the night. The really good ones will allow you to change it in precise millimeters.
Is it suitable for your specific needs?
If you breathe through your mouth, you’ll want a mouthpiece with air holes. If you sleep on your side, you’ll want a headpiece that doesn’t dig into your cheeks when you curl up. Make sure that you keep these personal little eccentricities in mind when shopping for anti-snoring products. Again, what works for other people might not work for you, and there’s no shame in comparing and contrasting products until you find something that meets your individual needs.
Creating My Criteria
As you can see, there’s a lot to think about when considering the value of a snore aid. I had to figure out my own standards, too.
Did I want something basic or advanced?
Did I have a preference for devices that corrected the tongue, jaw, chin or nose? Did I care about price?
Did I care about cleaning methods?
In the end, I decided that my ultimate question was simple: Would I recommend this product to others?
To create objective reviews, I follow certain evaluation standards for every product that I try.
For example, I want to give everything a fair shot, so I never use a product for less than two weeks.
I also follow all printed instructions on the box without deviation. I pretend that I’m a first-timer buyer who doesn’t know anything about snore aids, and this is how I’m able to review products from a wide perspective.
Sharing My Story
I don’t snore anymore. I wouldn’t call myself completely cured; I still huff and puff when I’m not using my favorite anti-snoring mouthpieces.
However, I’ve come a long way from the exhausted, frustrated individual who used to fall asleep during business meetings thanks to a lack of nighttime rest. I’m much happier and healthier than I used to be, and so is my wife. I don’t wake up either of us anymore.
My intention with this website is to help other people like me. If you struggle with a snoring habit, you aren’t alone. There are millions of us out there. There are also millions of us who have found relief with the right combination of sleep aids.
I hope that my reviews of these products can help you. If nothing else, they should get you asking the right questions as you continue your research on your own.
Good luck and sweet dreams!
